Pediatric Physical Therapy

Many developmentally “normal” children exhibit mild limitations that may affect their participation in play, activities, and sports.  These issues can increase their risk for a sedentary lifestyle and musculoskeletal pain later in life.  A physical therapist can identify specific gross motor limitations and design an intervention program to address.

Parents may observe postural issues, difficulty with gross motor activities and lack of coordination such as:

  • Slumping each time he or she sits on the floor
  • Avoiding participation in physical activities
  • Difficulty keeping up with the other children on the playground
  • Poor coordination or clumsiness
  • Complaints of “aches and pains”
  • Displaying excessive exertion during physical activities
Our physical therapists work  with many patients with complex movement impairments and have a unique perspective on maximizing a child’s participation in physical activities.

Following a gross motor evaluation, we will provide recommendations for physical therapy, if appropriate, and suggestions to parents on activities to perform at home to support the child’s optimal physical development.

Comprehensive orthopedic rehabilitation services for pediatric sports injuries is also available.
